Firebreather® Cavity Barrier
The Firebreather® Cavity Barrier is an efficient preventative fire protection solution for mounted, rear-ventilated facades. The cavity barrier consists of a stainless steel mesh and intumescent material that expands in the event of fire, immediately sealing cavities behind facades or in roof areas. It is maintenance-free, easy to install and provides fire resistance classes up to EI90.
Use: Used as a cavity barrier in ventilated facade systems to prevent flames and smoke from rising to higher floors.
Areas of application
- Firebreather® Cavity Barrier is suitable for:
- Cavities in ventilated facades
- Separation areas between floors in multi-storey buildings
- Ventilation gaps in roof and ceiling areas
- Fire protection in parapet ventilation
- Protection of air gaps in building structures
- Applications in the field of industrial fire protection sealing.
Highlights
- Immediate seal in the event of fire, preventing the spread of fire and smoke
- Fully passive system with no moving parts or activation systems
- Allows for continuous ventilation behind facade cladding prior to any fire occurring

Cavity barrier for ventilated facade systems
Product description
The Firebreather® technology employs multiple mechanisms to block heat transfer, thereby suppressing flame spread immediately.
The stainless-steel mesh is engineered to prevent flame breakthrough until the intumescent strip has fully expanded. Throughout the declared fire-resistance period, ignition on the unexposed side is precluded.
The cavity barrier is manufactured exclusively from corrosion-resistant materials and requires no periodic testing or maintenance.
Fields of application
• for uncompromising fire safe venting of voids and cavities inconstructions
• instantly prevents flame spread but provides ample ventilation behind the cladding until the intumescent strip has fully expanded
• fully passive vent design, containing no moving parts or cabling
• no PVC or plastic that can form burning droplets spreading downward fires
• blocks ember attacks
• blocks birds, rodents and insects which are larger than 2 mm

Processing information
Preparation of installation area: Ensure that the surfaces of the wall and the façade cladding are clean, dry and free of dust, grease or other contaminations. This will ensure optimal adhesion and functionality in case of fire. Alignment and positioning: Align the Firebreather® Cavity Barrier in such a way that the intumescent strip (KERAFIX® Flexpan 200 NG-A) is positioned vertically. This alignment will allow the necessary venting behind the façade cladding under normal conditions and ensure that the material will expand correctly in the event of a fire. Fastening: Fasten the Firebreather® Cavity Barrier with appropriate screws. Sealing joints: Ensure that all joints and openings are completely sealed to ensure that there are no unwanted cavities along the Firebreather® Cavity Barrier. Additional fire protection sealing may be necessary. Final inspection: Check the Firebreather® Cavity Barrier one last time after installation to ensure correct alignment and mounting. The intumescent parts must be completely accessible so they can expand freely in case of fire and ensure proper sealing. Regular inspection and maintenance: The Firebreather® Cavity Barrier is maintenance-free, but we recommend inspection, especially after construction work or renovation, to ensure long-term functionality and integrity of the installation.
Storage
At 18–25 °C and normal humidity (50–70 %).
