Mineral fibre boards for fire protection
A fire protection board is a mineral fibre board made of pressure-resistant and water-repellent rock wool. Fire protection boards are heat and sound-insulating, dimensionally stable with temperature changes, chemically neutral, and open to diffusion. The mineral fibre boards receive an additional fire protection coating (applied on one or both sides) of intumescent or ablative material: BML, BMA, FLAMMOTECT-A, or FLAMMOPLAST KS 1.

Areas of application: Creation of penetration seals for wall and ceiling openings
Firestop boards pre-coated with fire protection paint are suitable as system boards for cable, pipe, and mixed penetration seals approved by the building authorities. Depending on their coating, the surface of the boards expands or produces a cooling effect, which delays the transfer of temperature and keeps the room sealed off for the defined period of time.
Why use fire protection boards from Flamro?
With pre-coated fire protection boards, you are spared the laborious work step of coating the boards on site. The coating is applied mechanically in a uniform layer thickness so that it offers a high quality and a perfect surface finish for further processing in our penetration sealing systems.
Our firestop boards also have the following impressive properties:
High fire resistance
Smoke-tight
Sound-absorbing
Easy to install
Resistant to moisture and mold
Made from environmentally friendly materials and recyclable
Do you have questions about fire protection boards? We have the answers.
What different types of fire protection boards are there?
There are mineral fibre fire protection boards of varying thicknesses as well as with or without a pre-coating of fire protection paint. For use in a fire seal, an ablative or intumescent fire protection coating must be applied to the board.
What are fire protection boards made of?
A fire protection board is a mineral fibre board made of pressure-resistant and water-repellent rock wool. Fire protection boards are heat and sound-insulating, dimensionally stable with temperature changes, chemically neutral, and open to diffusion. The mineral fibre boards receive an additional fire protection coating (applied on one or both sides) of intumescent or ablative material.
How do fire protection boards work in case of a fire?
Together with the applied ablative or intumescent fire protection coating, the non-combustible mineral fibres prevent or delay the passage of heat and fire through the sealed opening.
Do fire protection boards have to be coated?
Depending on the fire protection system used, mineral fibre boards must have an ablative or intumescent fire protection coating.
How are soft penetration seals correctly installed?
Mineral fibre boards are inserted into and adhered to the opening. The surfaces and a circumferential edge must be provided with a fire protection coating in the defined dry film thickness. Other additional measures depend on the services installed. For detailed installation guidelines, refer to the underlying type approvals and the manufacturer’s installation manual.
What is a soft penetration seal?
Soft penetration seals are used to ensure that openings penetrated by installations are sealed off again. Soft penetration seals mostly consist of mineral fibre boards coated with a fire protection paint. Fire protection coatings are applied to highly conductive installations, such as cables, to limit heat transfer. Additionally, other fire protection products, such as fire protection collars or bandages, may also be necessary on combustible pipes.
